Floods : Advice To Be Offered in Beverley At Special Event

Floods are a hot topic and the Flood Advisory Service are heading to Beverley to help educate home owners in the region about how to cope with floods.

In December 2015, the wettest month since records began back in 1766, thousands of homes were flooded locally.

Many went without power, and it could happen all again warns the Flood Advisory Service.

The Flood Advisory Service, a not for profit organisation established to help communities throughout the UK facing the devastating effects of flooding, is in Beverley on Thursday 14th January from 10am – 7pm and Friday 15th January 10am – 2pm at the Tesco, in Beverley on Morton Lane.

The roadshow trailer will be staffed by flood advisors who will be on hand to give out free impartial advice on coping with floods and flood mitigation.

The Flood Advisory Service has quickly become a single point of contact, help and independent advice for vulnerable communities and the general public that are affected by flooding.

Wettest month led to wide spread floods throughout the UK

Managing Director of the Flood Advisory Service, Sarah Marriott explains.

“Just last month we saw the wettest month ever on record, with many communities throughout Yorkshire and neighbouring counties under 4ft of water.”

“So it’s no wonder flood mitigation has become a hot topic for debate not just here locally but on a national scale.”

“It is the reason we are visiting next week to help and give free impartial advice on how to protect your home or business.”

“Please do come along to the roadshow trailer and get the information you need to help protect your property.”

“Don’t be one of the people that thinks it will never happen to them. It happens and it is devastating when it does.”

“Given the recent weather warnings and future flood forecasts, we believe that over 11,000 homes in this area alone could be at risk.”

The trailer is full of lots of free information with independent advice available from flood advisors who can advise members of the public who their registered BSI qualified Flood Professionals are locally.

The Flood Advisory Service currently has a national roll out for the trailer with full details of locations and dates being available from their website.
